We were thrilled to welcome Sawyer to Room 8 and our St Bernadette's school whānau on Monday. Sawyer is the younger brother of McKenna who is in Room 7, and has been an enthusiastic member of Wednesday School over the past few months. Happy schooldays Sawyer!

On Tuesday we were privileged to be able to welcome Bashu, a school leader from Nepal, and Martyn, a  researcher from Victoria University who is working with our Kāhui Ako, to St Bernadette's. They were given a lovely warm St Bernie's welcome from our Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils showcasing our NZ Māori culture. The tamariki also got to enjoy hearing all about what life in Nepal was like, they asked lots of very good questions.

 Over the past few years Catherine has created the library into a warm, welcoming room where the love of reading is fostered. We were very sad to lose it this year as we needed to use it for a teaching space. The good news is we are working hard on finding a more permanent solution, but in the meantime we are transforming the hall into a library every Thursday. I took a little walk down there this week and was in awe at what I saw!

Good luck to all our tamariki competing in the Weetbix Tryathlon at Taieri College this Sunday. We hope to have lots of cool photos to share with you next week. I will have some gazebo's with our school flag set up the night before as a place we can all gather to support each other. Everyone should have received detailed information about the event via email from the organisers. If you have not got your Tryathlete pack these will be available to collect from the Pack Pick Up Tent at Taieri College, at the following times:
 2.00pm - 6.00pm, Friday 28th February

Or on the event day between 7.00am - 8.00am

All members of the school community are encouraged to come along and support the Blue Sharks, Red Eagles, Green Tigers and the Yellow Lions next Friday at Corstorphine Park from 9:40 to 12:00. Children are to wear their summer uniform, but they are also allowed to wear some ‘extra colour’ to associate themselves with their team. They need to take their morning tea and a drink bottle.
At the end of the day we will hold a special assembly back at school at 2.20pm to offer congratulations to everyone and announce the team results. Feel free to join us for this assembly.

Move it March is designed to encourage active travel (walking, scootering, biking etc) to and from school for the whole month of March. Challenge cards have been given out to the tamariki and spot prizes will be awarded at each assembly in March.
